The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biotechnology at Raisoni Education is a premier research program designed to transform scholars into thought leaders, biotech innovators, and life sciences architects. It offers a direct route to advanced careers in academia, biopharmaceuticals, research institutions, public policy, healthcare, agricultural biotechnology, and bio-entrepreneurship by placing molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and applied biotechnology at its core.
Research specializations span Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering, Biochemical Engineering & Fermentation Technology, Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, and Emerging Areas including Synthetic Biology, Nanobiotechnology, CRISPR-Based Diagnostics, Organ-on-Chip, 3D Bioprinting, and Precision Medicine.
Scholars gain access to state-of-the-art research resources including Molecular Biology Labs, Cell Culture & Tissue Culture Labs, Microbiology & Fermentation Labs, Biochemistry & Analytical Labs, Bioinformatics & Computational Labs, Advanced Imaging Labs, and an extensive Biotechnology Research Library with access to PubMed, ScienceDirect, Nature Journals, Cell Press, Scopus, and Web of Science databases.
Graduates emerge as University Professors, Biotech Scientists, Research Directors, Bioinformaticians, Pharmaceutical Researchers, Quality Control Heads, Clinical Research Coordinators, Patent Analysts, and Biotech Entrepreneurs—in high demand at top biotech institutes, biopharmaceutical corporations (Biocon, Serum Institute, Dr. Reddy's, Syngene), research institutions (DBT, ICGEB, NCCS, IISC, CCMB), regulatory bodies (CDSCO, BIRAC), and international life sciences organizations (WHO, UNESCO, Novozymes, Roche, Pfizer).
Applications for admission are now open for the academic year 2026–2027.

In India and internationally, Biotechnology Ph.D. holders with research experience earn competitive salaries based on location, sector (biopharma, research, academia, agri-biotech, bioinformatics), and research specialization.

Biopharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, synthetic biology, and CRISPR-based therapeutics sectors are projected to grow rapidly, driven by healthcare innovation, pandemic preparedness, climate resilience, and bio-economy initiatives.

Ph.D. graduates are sought after in top biotech institutes (IITs, DBT institutes), biopharmaceutical corporations (Biocon, Serum Institute), research institutions (NCCS, ICGEB, CCMB, IISC), regulatory bodies, and international life sciences organizations.
After completion, scholars may pursue:
The minimum duration is 3 years (full-time), including coursework. The maximum duration allowed is 6 years.
Candidates must have either: (a) A 4-year B.Tech./B.Sc. Biotechnology (Honours with Research) with 75% marks (70% for reserved categories), OR (b) An M.Sc./M.Tech. Biotechnology or related Life Sciences degree with 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).
No. M.Phil. has been discontinued by UGC. The pathway is now directly from Master's (or 4-year Bachelor's with research) to Ph.D.
Not mandatory if you qualify the university's Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET). However, candidates with valid DBT-JRF (BET), CSIR NET (Life Sciences), UGC NET, ICMR-JRF, or GATE (BT) are exempted from the PET and given preference during selection.
Yes. Candidates must appear for the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the University unless exempted.
Candidates who have cleared DBT-JRF (BET), CSIR NET (JRF/LS) in Life Sciences, UGC NET (JRF/LS) in Life Sciences, ICMR-JRF, GATE (BT), DST-INSPIRE, or BIRAC Fellowships are exempted from the PET but must still appear for the Personal Interview.
Yes, but only if your degree is a 4-year "Honours with Research" program in Biotechnology / Life Sciences with at least 75% marks (70% for reserved categories). Traditional 3-year B.Sc. degrees do NOT qualify.
The program is designed as a full-time research program. Professionals working in the biotech industry or research labs may be considered for part-time enrollment in exceptional cases (subject to university rules) with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer.
Yes. The Ph.D. program is UGC-approved and recognized by DBT (Department of Biotechnology), ensuring the degree is recognized for academic and government positions in biotechnology research and education.
Graduates can pursue careers as Biotech Professors, Research Scientists, Bioinformaticians, Pharmaceutical Researchers, Clinical Research Coordinators, Quality Control Heads, Patent Analysts, and Biotech Entrepreneurs in IITs, DBT institutes, biopharma corporations (Biocon, Serum Institute), research institutions (ICGEB, NCCS, CCMB), regulatory bodies, and international life sciences organizations.
